Turning black‑box models into blackboard intuition.
Professional Practice Associate Professor at the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business, Utah State University. I teach machine learning and forecasting the way I used it at BlackRock — hands on, visual, and honest about what the models actually do.

I came to the classroom from BlackRock New York, and it shows: my courses bridge the gap between the theory in the textbook and the models running in production. Students leave knowing not just how the methods work, but when to trust them.
That approach earned the 2024 USU Eldon J. Gardner Teacher of the Year award — the university's highest teaching honor — along with the Huntsman School Teacher of the Year.
“If you torture the data long enough, it will confess.”
— Ronald Coase
Nowhere is that truer than in trading. Backtest enough strategies and one of them will eventually confess to alpha it never had — that's data snooping. Half of what I teach is how to question the data; the other half is how to tell a genuine confession from a coerced one.
